How did
they get such a crazy idea?
I'm not sure when, but it must 've been about three years ago now since
that fateful night. We
were hanging on the couch, and enjoying some brews, while watching Easy
Rider. Wich is a nice movie to watch while hanging on the couch whilst
drinking some beer. It was Daan who said to me, "duuude we schould go
on a trip around the world on motorsshycles", and
I couldn't reply anything other then "okay".
The next morning I asked
him (hungover, and confused) if he was serious, about the round the
world trip plans. It turned out that he was serious. But at
the
time I felt no fear of such a trip actually happening, what with Daan
having neither a motorcycle, nor a drivers licence.
But somehow
that got the whole thing in motion, and slowly but surely we began
making plans about where to go and how to get there. A lot of
google-earthing, and reading about other travellers stories happened.
As well as a lot of beer drinking and Easy Rider watching.
Somewhat
more than a year ago, it happened. For some peculiar reason Daan had
passed his exams and recieved his drivers licence. He
bought a nice blue Tenere from the same year as mine, so we could
interchange parts and had to carry less spares on the big trip.
By
the time we had changed our plans from a round the world trip to a trip
around Africa, since that continent offers a relatively good
price/adventure rate. Or as the Adventure Motorcycle Handbook says:
Africa represents the ultimate adventure overlanding destination. More than that, there's so much
unique scenere, people and nature to expierience, that every mile we
make should be worth it
What route?

We'll
be starting here in Nijmegen, travel down to Munich and Spain, in the
south of Spain we'll take the ferry to Morocco. From there we'll follow the outlines of the continent counterclockwise, avoiding the most dodgy countries.
More info and a more detailed route will follow shortly. We're
currently busy with, gathering gps coordinates of important places, and incorporating
our "must see" stops.
The route as shown on the map is just a main overland route. We'll probably be deviating a lot from this route.
